I'm in Like with a Wonderful Guy!

Lovelies, I'm so falling in love with the Englishman!  Do you know what he did last night??  This is too much:

1. He brought me roses.  Beautiful antique purple ones - you know the light violet color??  Just beautiful!

2. He showered me with kisses and compliments!  Which I love - who doesn't?!

3. He listened to what happened my day and asked very thoughtful questions!  (all while I was cooking him a tasty meal at my little apartment in Actoria!)

4. He happily tagged along when I suggested meeting up with my out of town girlfriend Bex and her lovely boyfriend, the Violinist.  We all went to the champagne bar Flute in midtown.  Gawd I love a good tall glass of bubbly!  (he got the veuve cliquot, I got this tasty rose champagne! Amazing!)

5. He had to leave Flute after an a hour or so to get ready for his 5am meeting the next day - but get this - he PAID for the WHOLE BILL!!!  Their drinks, my drinks, our cheese plate AND our dessert!  What a classy guy?!!!

So I wil have to pay him back with proper kisses & cuddles!  He's just the BEST lovelies!  And he makes me feel like a queen!  Hooray!

Date #2 went MUCH better...

Lovelies,  I went on a date with the Argentinian again last night and it went MUCH better.  He showed up on time and there were no friends who appeared unannounced.  Overall was vastly improved from the first date.

However, my little red flags are still up.  (there are a few things that turn me off : like that he told me that he smokes at work - yuck.  But the good things outweigh the not-so-good.)  Do not worry lovelies, I'm actually enjoying being the smart girl this time.

When we met up last night there was a little hesitation on my part.  In fact when I mentioned my girlfriend from Australia was in town and staying with me he asked "Why didn't you invite her with us?" and I responded "Because I don't bring my friends on dates with me."

I think he got the picture then.
We had dinner at Ariba, Ariba on 9th Avenue & 50th Street.  Was tasty - had some great fajitas!  YUM!  And I treated myself to a corona light!  After which we actually went back to Astoria - where the Argentinian & I both currently are living (how convenient) and we went to a little wine bar called "Vino de Vino".  They had a great Pinot Noir and a respectable Cabernet...

(I've totally gained weight on Weight Watchers the past 2 weeks-  I'm so ready to go back to my meeting tomorrow and just be like "My name is Miss Musical and I've fallen off the wagon a bit over the past week.)

I was supposed to have my Kenyan girlfriend come & stay with me tonight, but she missed her bus this morning from Baltimore, so she's coming tomorrow with her sister.  (I'm secretly a little happy to have the night to myself, as my Australian girlfriend is out of town just for tonight as well - will be lovely to get a full 9 hours of sleep again.

I'm DRAGGING after this past week of getting up 2 - 3 times a night with my Australian friend's coughing...)  I feel so bad that she's sick on vacation, but that stuff happens.

Now it's back to work, lovelies - I gotta make some money today!

It Comes & It Goes...

Lovelies!  I'm so proud of myself!  I gave 2 ROCKIN' auditions this morning!  Boo-yah!

The first one was for the Westchester Broadway Theatre.  They were doing Titanic the Musical and cut the freaking Chorus Call from 16 bars to 8 bars!  WTF??!!  How on earth am I supposed to show them how GREAT I am in a measly 8 bars??!!

And get this - I ripped the seat of my pants WIDE OPEN right before I had to get in the line to audition!  Uugh!  (Thank God I had another pair of black stretchy pants in my bag!)

But never fear, my lovelies!  I thought "Well, since I did so poorly yesterday I MUST give a good showing today!"  And I DID!  It went great!  I sang my belty-modern music theatre number and got a TON of compliments from the creative team AND the accompanist!  Hooray!

The second audition was for the Depot Theatre/ Hanger Theatre season!  I sang my Aretha Franklin "rock-it-out" song!  Went great!  My favorite pianist Marky-Mark was in the room and it just made my day better to have someone on "Team Miss Musical" in the room!

Love that, Lovelies!  Love THAT!

Now I'm off to my friend's bi-weekly cabaret "Big Night Out" hosted by the Fabulous Miss Jennifer Wren!

There are more French Restaurants in NYC than in Paris...

... Lovelies, today's title of blog is what my Snapple bottle top just told me, since I have no clue what to write about today!  :)  And I'd believe it.  My favorite french restaurant in NYC is La Absinthe.  Who doesn't love a good glass of green goodness??  (try sayin' that 5 times fast!)

On second thought, maybe I do have an idea for a blog topic...  Let's talk about Christmas gifts.  I just bought my mom & dad their gift (my bro & I are doing a wine club for the 'rents this year - that should be fun for them!)  Last year we got them a helicopter ride above the Twin Cities and I just don't think I can top that this year!  :)
So the parental units are covered, the brother is not yet - but he doesn't appreciate my thoughtful gifts of mix CD's and socks, so I think he'll be getting a J.Crew gift card this year.

Auntie Renei and Patrick are getting tickets to Prairie Home Companion  - I thought an outing for them would be nice, and my other Auntie & Uncle are getting a gift card to the nice steakhouse in their neighborhood.

I don't know what to get for my uncle who just lost his wife...  Or any of my cousins.  I might just get all the girl cousins a pair of undies from Vicki's Secret - that's always a fun gift to get!

I did find the perfect gift for the Espresso Genius today!  It's SO brilliant!  I'm patting myself on the back right now - and I don't know if he reads this or not, so I'm not going to say what it is except that it's monogrammed, silver and can be used to cut cigars... D'OH!  Just Gave that away!!!  (and it's got a companion piece, too!)

For my friend R.Go I'm going to make him a super duper CD mix - he likes that kind of stuff and it's more personal.  I've decided to do that with some of my other friends, as well..  (Pookie, if you're reading this YES!  You're getting one too!)  :)

My roommate is already covered (but I really wanted to get her the big print of Audrey Hepburn that's at Ikea... maybe next year...)

The boys I nanny for, Henny Penny & T-Man, will both get books and a little toy or something special....  I'm thinking King Bidgood's in the Bathtub will be a fun book to read with him!  Or Diary of a Wombat - both AWESOME kids books!

Old Friends are great!

Today I was fortunate enough to have my teeth cleaned and also visit with some great family friends. (Random yes, but Les randoms was already taken as a blogging name - so my ADD is taking over & you all get to take a peek into my day today...)
SO the teeth cleaning went fairly well until she did that scrappy, scrappy thing. Uugh. I hate that metal on teeth noise. (Is anyone else with me there??) Anywho, got my pearly whites even whiter & then the doctor came in... Needless to say, I thought I was going to have a perfect exam as usual. Not so, friends... Not so.

I have 3 freakin' cavities!! WHAT??!! Cavity free for 26 glorious years and now I got THREE at once. I brush! I floss! What gives?! So now that's another $450 that's going straight out of my budget! Uugh... I'm taking donations if anyone has an extra chunk of cash laying around.... Just send it to the starving Actress Fund in New York - I should get it...

BUT on the upside I had a lovely meal tonight with the Senora family. (I call them this because it's my former Spanish teacher, her husband & their two lovely daughters - the Senoritas...)

So went to the Senoras home for dinner and Senor Senora had an AWESOME stew made up! (Yum - I love a good meaty stew!) So that was fun!
We chatted & caught up about life, family, books, men, etc. The Senor & Senora of the family are SO cool! Very vibrant & full of life! AND they are involved with a ton of activities! Just up my alley! :)
Got to hear all about Senorita G's ice skating ventures - she's going to go to Prague. She's really REALLY good! Such a young lady now! I can't believe it! And so calm & conversational - just a joy to be around! (...perhaps that comes from being around such a great baby sitter growing up!)
Her little Sister - Senorita C - was totally off the wall. She's a 'tween and is just a hoot! She's jumping on everything and picking up her cats and running all over! Very fun! She also played the Guitar Wars video game on the Wii (is that how it's spelled??) and she was quite good at that! Just a bundle of energy & very sweet!
Both Senor & Senora were doing well - was fun to chat with them. Both were busy with work & such! I was looking around their house & thinking "Gosh, it must be nice to own a home & have stability..."
There's always a little piece of me that wants to say "screw theatre & get a real job!" But let's be honest - If I listened to that voice I'd no longer be a fabulous (unemployed) actress in the city!
So the moral of today's blog: (morals??) 1. Brush your teeth & get regular checkups... but don't get too wigged out if you have a little mishap hear & there. 2. Unexpected meals with family friends are quite pleasant. And, because there's a history there, the people who invited you usually care a lot about you & your well being.... And couldn't we all use more people like that in our lives!
Until next time, your tune-humming blogger,
Miss Musical
