Mamma Mia & Date #2

Lovelies,  I went to the Mamma Mia chorus call on Tuesday morning and knocked it out of the ballpark!

For the pop/rock type of auditions I sing a certain TV show theme song which ends with a hat toss - and guess what?!  The two guys behind the table both pretended to toss their hats at the end with me!  Awesome, no?

So I felt good about that - they haven't called me yet though to offer me a callback...  Uugh.  Dating & auditioning seem to parallel in my life - when one area goes well, the other tends to follow in suit....  but last night was different!  I had a lovely date with no lovely audition.

It was date number 2 with the Engineer (not like a train conductor - like one who makes programs for computers dealing with financial analysis & things like that.)

We were supposed to go to the Tribeca Film Festival to see "The Girlfriend Experience", but alas, we didn't book tickets in advance... SO - we got tix for "I Love You, Man" and used the Engineers iPhone (thank you Urban Spoon) to find a lovely little paella bar called Socarrat

It was AMAZING!  Although the wait was very long, the food was just fantastic as was the service!  This is what we ate:

And after our quick meal we saw I Love You, Man - and lovelies I was almost wetting myself I was laughing so hard!  Paul Rudd is so deliciously awkward!  Brilliant concept for a movie - brilliant casting.  I loved it all!

Then it was back home to Actoria to watch more Mad Men DVD's - I'm obsessed!  Just started Season One & can't wait to get the second DVD in the mail!

I Need a Nap.

Cough, cough, cough...  Lovelies...

I - cough - am SO sick!  (and sick of being sick!)  I've been dealing with this cold for the past week and have been high as a kite on Mucinex for the past 2 days.  Uugh.  Will it ever end?!

At 4 am last night I finally fell asleep.  After coughing non-stop for the past 5 hours...  I was finally in a deep slumber when the old alarm clock went off & reminded me that I had to truck it down to the Equity Building at 7:30 a.m.

And silly me - I kept hitting that snooze button.  When I eventually did show up at the audition for the New York Theatre Festival I found (to my dismay) that all the slots were taken for appointment times!  Aaak - CURSES!  So, I smartly signed myself up on the alternate list in one of the later time slots and hoped that they wouldn't call my name until after lunch, as I had my hair appointment that morning in SoHo.

Well, lovelies - I went & had a lovely cut, color & blow-out.  It was magnificent.  And I am once again the blonde bombshell I want to be!  BUT - I got a little cocky and decided to go to Vicki's for undies & a bra and also to stop at Dean & Deluca for cheese samples (Taleggio, Midnight Moon Goats milk Testun Al Barolo, if you're interested) & free bread!

What's that you say- "But Miss Musical, don't you have an audition to get to?!"

Why yes, lovelies, I did.

But I whittled away my time, took the R train back up to 46th street only to find that they had called my name 5 MINUTES BEFORE I GOT THERE!!!!

I can't win.

(But that said - I have a great job, a great family & friends who love me!  And I sang at the Algonquin Hotel Artists Salon last night -that was a great time!)

And can one really be that sad when this movie comes out today?!

Mamma Mia! Here I go... well, not quite again...

Lovelies! Yesterday I got a phone call from the casting office that works on Mamma Mia!

(Don't get too excited... I wasn't asked for a callback or audition) BUT I was asked to be a reader!

Clappity - clap - clap!!!

FYI - the reader is someone who the casting office brings in to read sides with the people auditioning... and I was that girl for this call! They were auditioning for the lead young male understudies in Mamma Mia - so I got to read the young female part. (which I have never considered myself to be that kind of part - so that was exciting to get to read for it!)

The fellas that came in for the reading were all so sweet and talented! (and HOT! -- I got a little icky in my yuckies.... so to speak...)

Was really fun to hear what goes on after they leave the room - you could really tell this group of people knew what they wanted - made me feel good about when I go and audition! I am doing nothing wrong -just am not a correct "type" for a show or perhaps not the vocal sound or styling that they're looking for!

I'm just so pleased that I got to be a part of the whole thing- and while I wasn't perfect, I felt pretty darn good about it! And I had fun - which is the most important thing! (but really - how can you not have fun when you get to have hot men singing & touching you!?!)

At times it felt like the picture below... Hot.... I love my job!
